Martin explains that the Ancient Lights, the beings in the shooting star, have selected him as their chosen one to create a new world run by them. Using a radio broadcast he starts to control people all over the world by their star signs to make them compliant. Luke, however, does not have a star sign as he was created, rather than born, can withstand and eventually destroys Martin's control, freeing everybody.
